Evansville Otters News Release

June 12, 2009, O'Fallon, MO. - The Otters bullpen, which has been fantastic all year long, faltered and surrendered three runs in the eighth inning of the Otters' 6-3 loss Friday night to the River City Rascals in O'Fallon, Missouri.

The Otters took the lead in the first inning when Greg Alexander singled in Josh Howard after Howard led the game off with a double. The Otters added their other runs off of solo homers from Reece Gorman and Dustin Koca.

Otters' starter John Ducey delivered another strong performance, allowing only three earned runs in seven innings while striking out six. He did not factor in to the decision. After the Rascals scored a run in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game at 3-3, Manager Wayne Krenchicki called on reliever Brandon Dill to pitch the 8th. In 14 innings of work, Dill had not given up a run in 2009. The right-hander struggled though, surrendering a leadoff double to Kevin Reynolds, who finished 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, and two runs scored. Dill hit the next batter before Scott Robinson laced a line drive inside the first base bag for a two-run double. Pinch hitter Peter Paris singled in another run, pushing the advantage to 6-3. Dill (1-1) saw his earned run average rise from 0.00 to 1.80.

Jason Lowey pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save of the season. The Otters (6-13) will have a chance for revenge Saturday at 7:05 CDT.
