
Grizzlies Drop Series Opener

LOVES PARK, IL-The Rockford RiverHawks defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 5-1 Friday night in front of 2,781 fans at Road Ranger Stadium. The loss is the sixth series-opening loss in seven series this season for the Grizzlies.
Neither team managed a run through the first three innings. Rockford (7-13) got on the board in the first on a pair of hits off Grizzlies' starter Adam Bowling. The RiverHawks went up 2-0 with a run in the sixth.
Bowling (1-2) allowed two runs on six hits over six innings of work. He walked one and struck out six.
The Grizzlies (7-12) pushed their only run across in the seventh inning. Stephen Holdren led off the inning with a double, then scored on a two-out single by Joseph Scaperotta.
Rockford added a single run in the seventh off Grizzlies reliever Scott Kelly. John Maschino gave up a pair of runs in the eighth for the final margin.
Holdren finished the night 1-4. Scaperotta was 1-3. Brandon Peters enjoyed his best night of the year, finishing 3-4 with three singles.
The Grizzlies and âHawks continue the series with game two of the series Saturday night. First pitch is 6:05 pm.
