Freedom Get Shutout

FLORENCE, KY - In a battle of two teams tied for first it was the visiting Kalamazoo Kings and their pitching staff who stole the show, shutting out the Florence Freedom 2-0 Friday night.

Brandon Parillo (2-1) struck out 11 in the start for Kalamazoo as he pitched seven shutout innings for the win.

Freedom starter Moises Melendez (3-2) was not too far behind the opposing left-hander. Melendez went 7.2 innings with seven punch outs, he held the Kings to just four hits in the loss.

What did in Melendez and the Freedom were two walks to start the third inning. Jeff Grose and Brandon Anderson both walked, and then on a double stole to reached second and third. Ground balls from Joe Ramos and Tim Brown brought in the two runs.

The Freedom bats mustarded five hits through nine innings, four of which were doubles, but left seven men in scoring position throughout the night. Kalamazoo pitching combined to strike out 14 Freedom.

The Kings (13-6) are now on a four game winning streak while the loss snapped the Freedom's (12-7) three game run. Game two of the series will be played at 6:05 p.m. Saturday night from Champion Window Field.
