Orlando Erases Three Goal Deficit to Take Down Stingrays 4-3 in OT

Orlando, FL - Forward C.J. Severyn scored twice in the third period and C Ryan Cruthers struck with 1:18 left in extra time complete a three goal comeback over the South Carolina Stingrays at the Amway Center on Friday night.

The Stingrays got out to an early lead in the first frame. F Andrew Cherniwchan stole a puck in the attacking zone and lifted a backhand shot underneath the crossbar at 6:15 of the period to give South Carolina a 1-0 advantage. With just three seconds left in the period, F Hunter Bishop found F Alex MacLeod in front of the net, and McLeod redirected the shot into the back of the net to give the Stingrays a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.

Neither side was able to strike in the second frame, and South Carolina stretched their lead to 3-0 when MacLeod fired a slap shot into the top left corner of the net 3:31 into the third. Orlando began their comeback when C Mathew Sisca hit Severyn with a backdoor pass for a power play goal at 12:08, and Severyn followed it up with his second goal of the game when he deflected a shot from Sisca at 15:39 to bring Orlando back to within one. F Micheal Neal evened the game at 3-3, forcing overtime when he slammed home a loose puck from the low slot with 23 seconds left and the goaltender pulled. Cruthers finished off the comeback win when he led a 2-on-1 rush and picked the top corner of the net to help the Solar Bears take down the Stingrays 4-3 in overtime.
