Ontario Reign Game Preview: Reign and Gulls Continue Heated Rivalry Tonight in Ontario, CA

Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), host the San Diego Gulls tonight at 7:00 p.m. PT at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Tonight is the sixth of 12 meetings between the two teams this season.

Bitter Rivals:

The Reign and Gulls are among the top three teams in the American Hockey League in average penalty minutes per game. The Gulls rank first with 21.12 penalty minutes per game while the Reign stand third with 19.10 penalty minutes per game. In the series, the Gulls average 26 PIM per game and the Reign average 22 PIM per contest.

Special Teams War:

The Gulls boast the third-best power play in the AHL at 22.9 percent (32 goals on 140 opportunities) and face the fourth-best penalty kill in the Ontario Reign at 87.0 percent (20 goals against on 154 opportunities). Both teams have scored four power-play goals against each other.

Snapping the Skid:

Since winning the opening game of the series, 4-1 on November 5 in Ontario, the Reign have gone 0-3-0-1 against the Gulls.

Busy Weekend:

Tonight starts a three-game in three-day weekend for the Ontario Reign and a five-game homestand. The Reign host the Bakersfield Condors tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. and the Texas Stars on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. The Manitoba Moose visit Citizens Business Bank Arena for the first time on Wednesday at 7:00 and the homestand closes on Friday, January 22 against the San Jose Barracuda.
