Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons were shutout by the Hartford Wolf Pack losing by a 1-0 score on Friday night at the MassMutual Center.
The Hartford Wolf Pack grabbed their first lead of the season series with a goal from forward Marek Hrivik at 16:44 of the first period. His sixth of the season was scored via a wrap-around with an assist from Matt Lindblad. The assist was Lindblad's first point of the year. Hartford took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Falcons' goaltender Niklas Treutle allowed one goal on nine shots in the period.
The teams skated to a scoreless second period with the Falcons outshooting the Wolf Pack 11-10 in the frame. Hartford goaltender Magnus Hellberg turned aside all 22 shots through the second period to give his team a 1-0 lead going into the third period.
The Falcons added pressure in the third period in attempts to tie the game. Despite pulling Treutle in favor of the extra attacker with two minutes left, Hellberg and the Wolf Pack remained unscored upon and won the game 1-0. The Wolf Pack netminder improved to 11-10-2 with 31 saves and registered his second shutout of the year. Treutle fell to 7-10-2 with a 27 save performance.
The Falcons travel to Hershey to play the Bears tomorrow night at 7 p.m. and Sunday night at 5 p.m. at the Giant Center. Both games can be heard live on NewsRadio560 WHYN.
