Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that pitcher Jose Macias has been placed on the disabled list while pitcher Aaron Larsen has been added to the squad from the A's Arizona League rookie team. The current move maintains the roster at 25 active players as the Cougars wrap up a series in Wisconsin this evening before returning to Geneva to open a six-game homestand tomorrow night.

Macias (18th Rd, 2010) joined the Cougars on August 19 as the first member of the A's 2010 draft class to become a Cougar, and made two starts, going 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA.

Similar to Macias, Larsen (34th Rd, 2010) made his professional debut this summer with the Arizona A's and pitched in 14 games, four of which were starts. In those 14 games, Larsen was 5-2 with a 2.89 ERA and pitched a summer-best five innings in his most recent start on August 26 against the Giants' rookie league squad. A graduate of Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS, Larsen pitched in 13 games for the Swedes, posting a 3.25 ERA with 62 strikeouts. Larsen, while drafted as a pitcher by the A's, batted .326 from the plate as well.

PLAYOFF UPDATE: The Cougars are hanging tough as the team hopes to make the playoffs for the sixth time in eight seasons as an A's affiliate. The Cougars enter play Tuesday with a one-game lead and are fighting alongside Clinton, Beloit, Peoria and Wisconsin for one of two second half playoff spots in the Western Division. Currently, the LumberKings hold the top spot and are 1.5 games ahead of the Cougars. Kane County leads Beloit by one game, but if the teams were tied at the end of the season, the Snappers would take the playoff spot based on winning the tiebreaker with a better head-to-head record over the Cougars. Both Peoria and Wisconsin are just behind Beloit and mathematically still alive.

The regular season ends on September 6 and just seven games remain.
