South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

Eastlake, OH - A two out single, a wild pitch, and an error led to the only run of the game, as the South Bend Silver Hawks fell to the Lake County Captains 1-0 on Tuesday night. The Silver Hawks managed just six runs over the four game series and have now lost six straight games.

The 1-0 loss was the second such loss in the series, as South Bend was also blanked 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

With two outs in a scoreless tie in the bottom of the eighth inning, Argenis Martinez grounded a ball up the middle past pitcher Diogenes Rosario (LP, 4-9). David Nick gloved the ball on a backhanded play up the middle, but his throw was not in time to get the speedy runner.

A wild pitch moved Martinez to second base and that proved costly when Delvi Cid's grounder to Victor Estevez was thrown in the dirt at first base. Andrew Fie couldn't dig it out for South Bend, and Martinez never stopped running around third to score the game's only run.

The error ruined an otherwise great pitching night for South Bend, with Scottie Allen (ND) pitching four scoreless innings in the starting role returning from injury, and Rosario shutting down the Captains until the error.

Unfortunately, Lake County's pitching was slightly better, with three pitchers combining on a shutout. Francisco Jimenez (ND) went five scoreless frames, followed by Nick Kirk (ND) for 2.2 innings, and Jose Flores (WP, 1-1) for the final four outs.

The Silver Hawks managed just four hits on the night and were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. South Bend is 6-for-59 (.102 average) with RISP during the six game losing streak.

The Silver Hawks return home for the final home stand of the season when they host the Fort Wayne TinCaps (San Diego Padres) on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM Eastern Time with LHP Mike Belfiore (2-10, 3.86 ERA) going against RHP Matt Jackson (4-1, 3.38 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:10 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com .
