Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Davenport, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels road woes continued on Tuesday night at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport as they lost a six run lead in a 16-10 series finale loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits. Quad Cities scored in every inning as Devin Goodwin went 3-4 with a double, HR and 8 RBI.
The Kernels were unable to take advantage of seven River Bandit errors and issued 10 walks in the loss. Reliever Bryant George (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on two hits with three walks and one strikeout over 0.2 IP. The Kernels had Quad Cities and starter Joe Kelly on the ropes early as they roughed Kelly up for nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits over 3.1 IP.
But back-to-back four run innings by the River Bandits erased a 9-3 Kernels lead after five innings. Rainel Rosario was 1-4 with a HR, 2 RBI and three runs scored as Luis Mateo went 3-4 with an RBI and four runs scored. Reliever Chris Corrigan (3-0) picked up the win, allowing an unearned run over 2.2 innings.
Jean Segura led the Kernel offense, going 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI. Matt Long was 2-4 with an RBI and three runs scored and Michael Wing was 2-5 with an RBI. The Kernels finish the month of August with a 13-18 record, the first losing month since April when they went 10-12.
The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, September 1st and open the final regular season home series against the Burlington Bees. The first 2,000 fans through the gates receive a free Kernels Team Photo, thanks to Copyworks. And, it's a Mix 96.5 FM/WMT AM 600 Winning Wednesday where a lucky fan, age 18 and older, could win $10,000 if the Kernels perform a certain feat in the correct inning.
