Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Mark Fleury went 4-for-5 and Henry Rodriguez drove in four runs, as the Dayton Dragons (21-42; 51-81) took advantage of six errors to rip the Lansing Lugnuts (29-35; 65-68), 12-0, on a Dollar Dog Tuesday night on Jackson Field.
Dayton won three of four games in Michigan's capital after entering the series with a 3-12 record against the Lugnuts in 2010.
Dragons starter Ricky Bowen (5-8) set the tone for the rout with a dominant performance, allowing only three hits and a walk over seven shutout frames.
Junior Martinez pitched a perfect eighth and Jason Braun allowed a leadoff single in the ninth to wrap up the four-hit shutout.
The rest of the outcome was decided by the Dragons' offense and the Lugnuts' defense.
Catcher Karim Turkamani and shortstop Kevin Nolan committed two errors apiece, Nolan's pair coming on the same ground ball in the fifth inning. Center fielder Jake Marisnick and first baseman K.C. Hobson were each charged with miscues as well. The Lugs committed 12 total errors during the four-game series.
In his Midwest League debut, Lugnuts starting pitcher Daniel Webb (0-1) allowed seven hits and six runs (three earned) over five innings.
His relief mates fared no better: Danny Barnes was touched up for four runs (three earned) in the sixth and Matt Wright served up the final two Dayton tallies in the seventh. Only Brian Slover escaped unscathed, recording the final two frames scorelessly.
Second baseman Jon Del Campo provided one of the lone standout efforts in defeat, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles to increase his average to .304. Del Campo has 12 hits in his last 24 at-bats.
Lansing welcomes West Michigan to Cooley Law School Stadium on Wednesday night for the opener of a three-game series, the Lugnuts' final home series of the season. Nuts right-hander Drew Hutchison (0-2, 1.93) gets the start against Whitecaps right-hander Victor Larez (8-10, 4.25).
Tickets to all Lugnuts home games are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
