Omaha's Bats Quiet in Loss to St. Paul

St. Paul, Minn. - The Omaha Storm Chases (37-39) fell in the series finale to the St. Paul Saints (38-39) to earn a series split in St. Paul. The Chasers lead the season series 8-4 after the 10-2 loss.
First the first time in the series, Omaha did not score the game's first run, as the Saints blanked the Storm Chasers in the first and put up two in the first and one in the second to open a 3-0 lead.
Catcher Freddy Fermin was the first Storm Chaser to reach base, hitting a single in the third. Third baseman Jimmy Govern hit a single into center to put a pair of runners on with nobody out. A double play and an infield lineout ended Omaha's rally in the inning.
Left-handed pitcher Drew Parrish (Loss, 1-2) stranded the bases loaded in the third before allowing two more runs in the fourth. Parrish came out after the fourth, having allowed a career-high tying seven hits for the second consecutive time.
In the fifth, the Storm Chasers used a hit by pitch from center fielder Brewer Hicklen and a single from second baseman Clay Dungan to put runners on the corners. Fermin hit a sacrifice fly to plate Omaha's first run and cut into the St. Paul lead.
RHP Ryan Weiss made his organizational debut, after being claimed off waivers earlier in the week, throwing the fifth inning and allowing an earned run with a strikeout.
The Saints added four runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 10-1.
Designated hitter Michael Massey drew a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh to extend his on-base streak to 16 games, the longest active streak on the team. A strikeout and double play would strand Massey and leave the score at 10-1.
Fermin and Govern drew a pair of walks to start the eighth before Fermin moved to third on a flyout to center field. Fermin would score on a wild pitch to make the score 10-2 in favor of the Saints.
Neither team scored in the final six outs, leading to a 10-2 St. Paul win and a series split.
Omaha returns home to face off with the Toledo Mud Hens in a six-game series that starts on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone. Omaha sends left-hander Austin Cox (2-4, 3.98) to the mound while Toledo's starter has yet to be announced.
