Rochester Red Wings Game Notes - July 3 vs. Worcester

July 3, 2022 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

MOM, IT'S JUST A PHASE: The Rochester Red Wings dropped their fifth consecutive game to Worcester Saturday night, falling 10-0 to Boston's top affiliate...RHP Logan Verrett went 3.1 innings and gave up five earned runs on seven hits...RHP Curtis Taylor worked a pair of scoreless innings after following RHP Matt Brill who surrendered four runs in his 1.2 innings of work...2B Jake Noll logged a pair of knocks in the loss, going 2-for-4...outfielder Josh Palacios had the Wings' only extra-base hit, going 1-for-3 with a double...RHP Anibal Sanchez gets the ball for the Wings, facing off against Worcester's RHP Michael Feliz.

PAIN: Yesterday's shutout was the first time Rochester had been shutout and allowed ten or more runs since June 4 versus Buffalo...the 10-0 loss ends the Wings' streak of games being decided by two or fewer runs at 11...after starting the year 12-2 in one-run games, the Wings are just 3-7 since June 9.

KEEP IT NOLL-ING: Wings' 2B Jake Noll picked up his 200th career hit with the Red Wings...the second baseman had a pair of knocks in yesterday's loss, the only Rochester batter to pick up multiple hits...his multi-hit performance marks the 19th time this season that the righty has recorded a multi-hit game, ranking third on the club (Meneses, 21 and Stevenson, 27)...Noll has now logged a hit in 11 of his last 12 games...the 28-year-old is 14-for-47 (.297) with two homers and a team-leading four doubles over the 11-game stretch...his seven RBI is the second-most on the team over that span, one short of Andrew Stevenson (8).

THE HERRMANNATOR: C Chris Herrmann made his first start since 5/19, picking up a hit in his first at-bat of the game...the lefty batter would finish the game 1-for-4...Herrmann has spent parts of four seasons in Rochester (2013-2015 & 2022, 171 games), amassing 148 hits as a Red Wing...his 148 knocks in a Wings uniform rank second on the active squad, behind INF Jake Noll (200).

PUSHIN' P(ALACIOS): LF Josh Palacios went 1-for-3 with a double in the game five loss to Worcester...since joining the Wings on 4/16, the Brooklyn-native has eight two-baggers, tying Adrian Sanchez for fourth among Wings in that category since that date...the lefty has also extended his on-base streak to 12 games, dating back to June 19...since that date, Palacios is (16-for-44) with three doubles, seven RBI, and two walks.

TAYLOR MADE: Yesterday, RHP Curtis Taylor worked two perfect innings, striking out a pair of batters in the process...after his first 11 strikeouts with Rochester came via swing and miss, both of Taylor's Ks yesterday were called on strikes...since getting assigned to the Red Wings on June 16, Taylor has pitched 7.2 innings over six outings...the righty has a 2.35 ERA and is tied first in strikeouts (13) since joining the team on June 16...he leads all Wings since joining the squad with a 16.3 K/9.

WE DIDN'T WANT TO SCORE ANYWAYS: The Wings offense did not score for the fifth time this season in a 10-0 loss to the Woo Sox...they were shutout by double digit runs for the second time this season (6/4 vs. BUF: 13-0, G2-7 innings)...in 2022, Rochester is 2-2 in games following a shutout...the 2021 squad failed to score a run 10 times last year.

SUMMERTIME SADNESS: Since the official start of Summer (June 21), the Red Wings have a record of 3-8...coming into today's game, the Wings, who on June 17th still had sole possession of first place in the International League, had fallen to 6th place in the standings...despite this, they are just two games back in the IL-East...since Summer began, Red Wings' hitters are batting .251 (83-for-331) as a team, and have scored the fifth-fewest runs in the league (41) with a run differential of -15.

ANI-BALLIN': RHP Anibal Sanchez will make his second rehab start with the Wings today as Rochester looks to get a win in the series versus Worcester...in his first start against the Woo Sox he went 2.2 innings and gave up two earned runs...tonight will be the third rehab-start for the Big League veteran (one w/ FCL Nationals), who has not pitched in the Big Leagues since September 26, 2020.

The Red Wings' Communication Department is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
