The Omaha Royals, in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands are wrapping up weekly baseball clinics they have been holding this summer known as the Royals FUNdamentals program. On Wednesday, July 28, 2010 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Hillside Little League fields, 7816 Western Avenue, the 50 youth, ages 8-12 who have been participating in the summer program will hold their own version of league playoffs.

The clinics have been teaching youth baseball fundamentals and drills, including practices and scrimmages. Wednesday's games will allow the kids to put into practice what they've been taught throughout the summer.

"We are very excited about the partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs and the Peter Kiewit Foundation. Together we are making it possible to encourage baseball and sportsmanship across the community," said Martie Cordaro, Omaha Royals vice president and general manager. "The Royals staff, led by Diann Spataro, has been instrumental in making this new initiative a real success."

A "World Series" party will be held for the kids on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at the Royals game against the Tacoma Rainiers.

Peter Kiewit Foundation is providing transportation for the children from the club locations and the Boys and Girls Clubs have helped with recruitment of team members as well as making staff available at the clinics. The local M.I.N.K. league team, Omaha Diamond Spirit, has also assisted with baseball instruction during the program
