OMAHA, NE - Omaha Royals reliever Greg Holland today was named the Pacific Coast League's Pitcher of the Week. He became the second Omaha pitcher in as many weeks and third Royals player this season to earn weekly honors from the league office.

Holland appeared in three games during the week that ended Sunday, going 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA. He allowed one run on three hits over seven innings, walking three while chalking up 14 strikeouts.

The 24-year old right-hander, who was Kansas City's 10th round pick in the 2007 draft out of Western Carolina University, has spent the entire season with Omaha. Holland is 3-3 with a 3.81 ERA and 3 saves in 35 games. PCL batters are hitting a paltry .199 against him, as he has yielded only 40 hits in 56.2 innings, while racking up 60 strikeouts compared to 30 walks.

At Western Carolina, Holland went from being a walk-on to earning 1st-team All-Southern Conference honors in 2007, when he helped the Catamounts to the conference title.

Holland follows Omaha starter Gaby Hernandez as recipients of Pitcher of the Week honors this year. Hernandez earned his award for the week that ended last Sunday. Alex Gordon was named PCL Batter of the Week for the week that ended May 16th.

The Royals' next home game is Wednesday, August 4 at 7:05 p.m. vs. the Portland Beavers. That opens an eight-game homestand at Rosenblatt Stadium, with the Royals hosting Portland and the Tacoma Rainiers in a pair of four-game series.
