Omaha Outlasts Iowa in Home Run Derby

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (42-57) fell in their fourth game of the series by a score of 11-5 to the Omaha Storm Chasers (54-44), Friday at Principal Park.

Bobby Witt Jr. started the scoring in the top of the first inning with his third home run of the series, a solo shot to bring Omaha's lead to 1-0. Ian Miller matched him in the bottom half of the inning, starting the night off with a solo home run for the I-Cubs to tie the game at 1-1.

The Storm Chasers scored four runs in the second frame, highlighted by a three-run home run from Rudy Martin. Nick Pratto and Greg Deichmann traded solo shots in the third, bringing Omaha's lead to four runs at 6-2.

Jackson Kowar allowed just those two runs on five hits while striking out seven over his 5.0 innings of work. The home run derby continued in the fifth, when MJ Melendez hit a solo home run to extend the Storm Chasers lead.

After two more runs from Omaha in the seventh, Iowa made it a four-run game heading into the ninth with two runs of their own in the seventh and one in the eighth. Melendez ended the comeback attempt with a two-run blast in the ninth, his second homer of the game and 33rd of the year.

Dylan Coleman got the final three outs for the Storm Chasers to take the game 11-5 and officially win the series, taking each of the first four games so far.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- The two teams combined to hit nine total home runs tonight, including seven solo shots between the two teams.

- Dillon Maples threw a scoreless inning tonight for Iowa, striking out a batter in his perfect frame.

- Three players recorded multi-hit games for the I-Cubs tonight, with four different players hitting solo home runs.
