OMAHA - Cubs first baseman Dan Vogelbach lifted a pair of opposite field home runs and starter Jake Buchanan fired seven quality innings, while Storm Chasers second baseman Whit Merrifield mashed a two-run longball as Omaha lost their first series of the season with a 10-3 loss to Iowa on Monday afternoon at Werner Park.

Iowa (15-14) got off to a fast start with a five-run first frame. The Cubs collected four straight singles to begin the contest, with that stretch capped by an RBI single from 1B Taylor Davis, before Vogelbach blasted his first big fly of the day with a three-run shot to left field for a 5-0 advantage.

The I-Cubs would then total five more tallies between the four and sixth frames, beginning with a solo roundtripper from Vogelbach in the fourth. Following back-to-back RBI base hits from Davis and LF Albert Almora Jr. in the fith, RF Shane Victorino finished Iowa's scoring with a two-run knock in the sixth to make it 10-0.

Omaha (17-13) ended the Cubs' shutout hopes with three scores in the sixth. RF Jorge Bonifacio got the Storm Chasers on the board with a run-scoring two-bagger to right-center, before coming across on Merrifield's homer down the left field line to cut the deficit to 10-3.

CF John Andreoli (3-5, 2 R) led Iowa with a game-high three hits, while Vogelbach (2-4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI), Victorino (2-5, R, 2B, 2 RBI) and Davis (2-5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI) each tallied two knocks. Merrifield was the lone Omaha hitter to tally a multi-hit effort.

Buchanan (7.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 SO) earned his second victory of the season with seven solid innings, with relievers Armando Rivero (1.0 IP, 2 BB, 2 SO) and Carl Edwards Jr. (1.0 IP, H, 3 SO) joining forces for two shutout frames. Storm Chasers starter Jonathan Dziedzic (5.0 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO) suffered the defeat, while outfielder Travis Snider (2.0 IP, H, SO) threw two innings of shutout ball as the first position player to pitch for Omaha since Micah Gibbs on September 6, 2015 versus Nashville.

The loss gave the Storm Chasers their first series loss of the season after winning three of their first seven and splitting their other four. Omaha came into play today as one of only two Pacific Coast League teams to have not lost a series, along with the Oklahoma City Dodgers.

The Storm Chasers continue their eight-game homestand with a four-game series against the Memphis Redbirds, starting Tuesday evening at 6:35 p.m. at Werner Park. Omaha is anticipated to send RHP Brooks Pounders (3-0, 2.73), with Memphis slated to counter with RHP Deck McGuire (0-4, 4.50).
