Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Monday afternoon's game between the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and Oklahoma City Dodgers started off as a pitchers duel between two of baseball's top pitching prospects. It ended with the Sky Sox offense erupting for its biggest inning of the season to beat the Dodgers 7-3 and earn a split of a four game series.

The Sky Sox entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 3-0. At the end of the inning, they were holding a four run lead after five extra base hits and a pair of walks pushed across seven runs to give the Sky Sox the lead for good.

Damien Magnifico then came out of the bullpen and pitched the final two innings without allowing a run to give the Sky Sox their biggest win of the season.

The win was the Sky Sox sixth this season when trailing after six innings. As of the start of play on Monday, not other team in the PCL had more than two wins in the same situation.

The game started with Sky Sox starter Jorge Lopez (0-2, 7.33) and Dodgers starter Julio Urias (3-1, 1.50) trading zeroes.

In the third, the Dodgers pushed across the game's first run as a bases loaded walk from Rob Segedin scored Urias from third. Lopez settled down after that, and finished with his best start of the season. In five innings, Lopez allowed one earned run on two hits while striking out five Dodgers.

Urias was dominant for the Dodgers from the start. He pitched six scoreless innings with four strikeouts before turning the game over to the Dodgers bullpen.

In the seventh, Sky Sox reliever Tim Dillard allowed a pair of Dodger runs on run scoring hits from Elian Herrera and Austin Barnes to give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead. With two outs, Austin Ross came in and struck out Corey Brown to end the frame.

Lisalverto Bonilla came in looking to hold the lead, but only got through a third of an inning before Luis Avilan was called in to relieve him. After the Sky Sox got on the board on Josmil Pinto's run scoring double off Bonilla, Dodgers catcher Austin Barnes and manager Bill Haselman were ejected by the home plate umpire for arguing balls and strikes.

From there, the Sky Sox bats started crushing extra base hits. Garin Cecchini got the second Sky Sox run home on a sac fly. Then Keon Broxton, Nate Orf, and Will Middlebrooks all doubled to give the Sky Sox a 5-3 lead. Manny Pina then crushed a two-run home run deep over the left field wall to give the Sky Sox the lead.

Ross earned his second win of the season for the Sky Sox. Avilan suffered his second loss of the season for the Dodgers.

The Sky Sox will begin a four game series in New Orleans against the Zephyrs tomorrow night. Hiram Burgos (1-2, 6.20) is scheduled to get the start for the Sky Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. MDT.
