Clemens Pitches a Gem in Round Rock, But Z's Lose 2-1

Round Rock, TX - New Orleans starter Paul Clemens pitched six shut-out innings limited the Express to two hits and matched his career high with ten strikeouts but it was not enough as the Zephyrs fall 2-1 at Dell Diamond. The Zephyrs drop three out of four in the series.

Destin Hood drilled a solo home run in the sixth inning to give the Zephyrs a 1-0 advantage. The home run for Hood was his team leading seventh of the season.

Clemens dealt six solid innings but in the seventh inning he yielded to the bullpen with a 1-0 advantage. Cody Ege walked the first three batters he faced and then allowed a base hit for the tying run to score. Patrick Kivlehan RBI single tied the game and Ege got Drew Robinson to ground into a double play but the go ahead run scored.

Express starter Nick Tepesch pitched seven innings allowed one run on five hits for the win. Carlos Fisher got the final four batters out and earned his fourth save of the season.

The Zephyrs (14-16) are four games back of the first place Express (18-12).

GAME NOTES

The ten strike-outs by starter Paul Clemens matched a career best set in 2012 while he was with Oklahoma City.

The Zephyrs are 8-6 in a stretch of playing 20 of 26 games on the road.

The Zephyrs out-hit Round Rock 5-3 in the game and lost for the first time when outhitting the opponent. 6-1.

The Zephyrs will open a four game set Tuesday at 6:00pm at Zephyr Field. The Zephyrs will start Dylan Axelrod against Hirom Burgos for Colorado Springs. The game will be broadcast on WODT Fox Sports 1280 AM and streamed at iHeart Radio App.
