TODAY'S MATCHUP
RH Luis Mendoza (1-0, 1.23) vs. RH Justin Berg (0-2, 8.59)
Mendoza-
Making first rehab start for Oklahoma during this stint on the Rangers DL Berg-
Surrendered 0 R on 4 H over 4.0 IP with 3 K in 5/21 ND @ OMA (4-3 loss in 12) LAST GAME: The I-Cubs plated four runs on RedHawks starter Dustin Nippert over the third and fourth innings, and rolled to a 9-2 win from there. Koyie Hill hit his second home run of the season in the third inning to get the offense started. Iowa added two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth off the RedHawks bullpen. Jason Ellison singled home Ryan Roberts in the fifth inning for Oklahoma's first run, and Nelson Cruz hit his 14th home run of the season for the other, a two-out shot in the eighth inning. Nippert (2-1) took the loss, while Randy Wells (4-1) earned the win.
ANOTHER STREAKER: Ryan Roberts is riding a six-game hitting streak entering his next game. Roberts is hitting .450 since this run began May 19, one day after he had another six-game hitting streak broken. The RedHawks infielder has reached base safely in 15 consecutive games dating back to the first game of a May 8 doubleheader with Sacramento. He is also on a 15-game road on-base streak that dates back to April 21.
PRETTY LONG NO MATTER THE LEAGUE: Taylor Teagarden still holds the longest current hitting streak in the PCL at 14 games. It matches the longest current runs from the International League (Hector Luna and Wayne Lydon of Syracuse). The 14-game streaks are the second longest hitting streaks in all of minor league baseball, trailing only Hickory's Bobby Spain in the South Atlantic League, who has hit safely in 16 consecutive games.
TIME TO HEAL... AGAIN: Luis Mendoza joins Oklahoma for a rehab assignment starting this afternoon. Mendoza is currently on the Rangers disabled list with right shoulder inflammation retroactive to April 24, but is also suffering from blisters on his pitching hand. He is replacing Elizardo Ramirez in the rotation today, but is on a low pitch count. Ramirez is expected to follow him in the game today. Mendoza began the year with Oklahoma on a rehab assignment, beating Nashville 6-1 on the fifth day of the season. Ramirez began the year making two relief appearances before taking the fifth spot in the rotation.
TURN IT: The RedHawks have turned the second fewest double plays in the PCL (41), just four more than Iowa's league low 37. Oklahoma's Elizardo Ramirez has induced eight double plays this season, four more than any other RedHawk pitcher.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Texas beat Cleveland 2-1 in 10 innings... Frisco fell 6-5 a Northwest Arkansas... Bakersfield upended Inland Empire 11-2... Clinton knocked off Cedar Rapids 7-3.
DOT-DOT-DOT: Taylor Teagarden has played in 17 games for Oklahoma this season and has reached base safely in 16, having been kept off the bases only once (April 29 @ POR)... RedHawk relievers has recorded just five saves over the last 30 games since Frank Francisco was recalled on April 22. Oklahoma is 13-17 since that point. Francisco had five saves over the season's first 20 games, accounting for all but one of the RedHawk saves recorded by that point in time.
TIME CHANGE: The RedHawks have announced one time change that differs from the pocket schedules. Oklahoma's game on June 1 with Omaha is now slated for a 2:05 pm first pitch.
ON THE AIR: Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand. Fox Sports Radio AM 1340 in Oklahoma City will serve as the flagship station in 2008. The network affiliates this season are KSIW 1450 AM in Woodward, KXCA 1380 AM in Lawton, KPNS 1350 AM in Duncan, KTJS 1420 AM in Hobart, KGFF 1450 AM in Shawnee, and KWSH 1260 AM in Wewoka.
