Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders led from start to finish in a 7-1 win to avoid being swept by the Sacramento RiverCats Monday.

Tucson scored in each of the first three frames, putting up a run in the first and two in both the second and third innings.

Tim Ranies, Jr. was a major catalyst for the winning squad, delivering a 2-run homer to right in the second and an RBI triple the next inning. Raines, Jr.'s triple was the second in back-to-back three baggers, joined by Don Kelly who also drove in a run.

Sidewinders starter Esmerling Vasquez got out of trouble when he needed to. The righty stranded five baserunners over the first three innings and finished with four scoreless frames.

Tucson relievers Dustin Glant, Connor Robertson and Leo Rosales combined to hold Sacramento to just one run over the final five innings of work. Roberston picked up his team leading fifth win of the year to become 5-2. RiverCats starter Chris Gissell took the loss to fall to 0-1.

Tucson will begin a four game set with the Las Vegas 51s Tuesday when righthander Juan Gutierrez (1-8, 5.65) will take the mound for the Sidewinders opposed by righty Jason Johnson (6-2, 4.10). First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:20 p.m.
