Pie Lifts Cubs Over RedHawks

Felix Pie drove in a pair of runs as the Iowa Cubs defeated the Oklahoma RedHawks 6-4 at Principal Park Monday afternoon.

Pie, who entered Monday's game with a team low .075 batting average got things going in the first inning when he drove in Eric Patterson with an RBI single to center field.

Pie's single was the first of four Cub runs in the inning. Matt Murton and Bobby Scales added RBI doubles in the first. Patterson helped Iowa build up a 5-0 lead in the second inning with an RBI single to right field.

I-Cubs starter Justin Berg picked up his first career triple-A win with five solid innings. The right-hander gave up two earned runs on four hits while striking out four.

RedHawks starter Luis Mendoza, on a rehabilitation assignment from the Texas Rangers, was roughed up for the loss, giving up five runs on six hits in just two innings of work.

Pie finished the game 2-for-4 with a run, RBI, stolen base, and two hits to raise his average to .114.

Four Iowa pitchers combined to strike out 10 RedHawks batters in the win, including three by reliever Neal Cotts who picked up his third save of the season.
