Former Tulsa Union star Les Walrond was perfect through 4.2 innings in the Iowa Cubs' 3-2 win over the Oklahoma RedHawks Tuesday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

Walrond went eight innings and gave up four hits, walked none and struck out six to improve his record to 6-1. Kerry Ligtenberg pitched the ninth to record his third save of the season.

Walrond retired the first 14 Oklahoma batters he faced before allowing a single to Jason Hart in the fifth. The first five hitters in the Oklahoma batting order combined to go 0-for-19.

Iowa took the lead in the second on three straight singles to open the inning. They added a run in the third on a solo homer by Felix Pie. Jeff Deardorff doubled in the eighth and later scored on a single by Mike Fontenot.

The RedHawks had chances to score in the sixth and eighth innings off Walrond. They had runners at second and third with one out in the sixth and with none out in the eighth. The RedHawks were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

Micah Hoffpauir was three-for-five with a run scored to lead the Cubs offensively.

The RedHawks begin a 12-game road trip Thursday in Omaha. They return home for an eight-game homestand against New Orleans and Round Rock starting June 21.
