Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - Steve Kent's longest relief outing of the year kept the Express in Tuesday's game long enough, but Round Rock's offense couldn't find it's footing after the fourth inning against Omaha.

The Express, who have Wednesday off before opening up an eight-game road stand, managed just two hits over the final five innings of a 5-3 loss at The Dell Diamond.

Kent, who previously hadn't worked more than two innings in 20 appearances, entered Tuesday's game with a 3-2 deficit in the fifth and allowed one earned run on two hits, two strikeouts and a walk over three innings.

The Royals (Kansas City) struck early against starter Ezequiel Astacio (1-2), taking a 1-0 lead with a one-out triple from Aaron Guiel in the top of the first inning. Chad Allen followed up with an RBI-single to pad the lead at 2-0.

Round Rock chipped away, scoring on three straight singles in the bottom of the inning and adding runs in the fourth and sixth innings thanks to a double and a home run from Cody Ransom.

Ransom, hitting .364 through his last five games heading into Tuesday, doubled and scored with two outs in the fourth and followed up with his fifth homer of the year, a solo-shot over the left field wall, in the sixth inning.

But the Royals never trailed, scratching out a run in the third, fifth and sixth innings. Allen's blast with no one aboard in the sixth pushed Omaha's lead to 5-3.

Round Rock hits the road Thursday for four games in Iowa followed up with four games in Albuquerque. The Express returns home on Friday, June 16 to face New Orleans with Roger Clemens scheduled to make his third tune-up start before joining the Astros.
