June 6, 2006 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The visiting New Orleans Zephyrs completed the sweep of the Memphis Redbirds on Tuesday evening winning 3-1 in front of 9,061 at Autozone Park. Ryan Church homered for the second consecutive game in the first inning to give the Zephyrs a 1-0 lead. Church drove in another run in the third inning and the Zephyrs pitching staff did the rest. New Orleans allowed just one run in the game and starter Anastacio Martinez earned the win. Three Zephyrs relievers followed and Roy Corcoran closed the game with a perfect ninth inning and his third save in four days. The Zephyrs shined defensively with a great glove play by first baseman Larry Broadway in the sixth inning to spoil a Redbird rally. The road sweep was the first of the season for the Z's and it was the second time this season the Zephyrs swept Memphis.
Game Notes: The Zephyrs bullpen allowed just one run in 16 innings of relief in the series. The Zephyrs allowed just six runs in the series. New Orleans has won five of six games and trail the first place Albuquerque Isotopes by 2 ½ games.
