Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers and New Orleans Zephyrs have a quick turnaround as they continue their series at 11:05 a.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on the Dodgers' first home field trip day of the season. The Dodgers are looking to avoid losing three straight home games for the first time this season.
Last Game: Dan Black delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double to break a scoreless tie in the seventh inning and provided all the offense, as the Zephyrs shutout the Dodgers, 2-0, Tuesday night. OKC starting pitcher Jose De Leon made his Triple-A debut and impressed with five strong innings. He allowed no runs and two hits, with one walk and nine strikeouts. With two runners on and two outs in the seventh inning, Black hit a double off the right field fence against Luis Avilan (0-1). It was one of just four hits by New Orleans. Zephyrs starting pitcher Jarred Cosart (1-0) held OKC scoreless over six innings and earned his first win. He allowed six hits, one walk and had three strikeouts. Eric Jokisch retired the final four OKC batters to earn the save. It was the first time the Dodgers were shutout this season and the third shutout tossed by the Zephyrs in 2016.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Julio Urias (2-1) tries for his third win of the season today...The 19-year-old last appeared out of the bullpen Thursday in Omaha in a scheduled relief outing, piggybacking starter Zach Lee. Urias pitched the game's final three innings and kept Omaha scoreless and allowed three hits, with one walk and three strikeouts...He earned a win in his last start against Memphis April 22 in OKC. He retired the first 11 batters he faced while striking out eight Redbirds batters over five innings. He held Memphis to one run and two hits and allowed one walk...Urias is currently 0.2 IP shy of officially qualifying among league leaders, but he would rank first in WHIP (0.94), second in strikeouts per nine innings (11.5), tied for fourth in opponent average (.206), and seventh in ERA (2.50)...Through his first 18.0 IP, Urias has notched 23 strikeouts against three walks, good for a 7.67 strikeout-to-walk ratio...Urias spent the majority of the 2015 season with Double-A Tulsa, but missed almost two months of the season due to elective cosmetic surgery on his left eye in late May...He made 13 starts with the Drillers, going 3-4 with a 2.77 ERA. He recorded 74 strikeouts against 15 walks over 68.1 innings and held opponents to one or no runs in seven of his 13 starts with the team...Today marks his first career appearance against the Zephyrs.
Against the Zephyrs: 2016: 0-2 2015: 12-4 All-time: 153-134 In OKC: 81-64
This marks the first series of the season between the teams. The Zephyrs have won the first two games after winning just two games in OKC during the entire 2015 season...The Dodgers won the 2015 series, 12-4, and defeated the Zephyrs in 10 of the final 11 meetings. The 12 victories tied OKC's record for most wins accumulated in one season against New Orleans (1999)...OKC went 6-2 both at home and on the road against the Zephyrs last season...O'Koyea Dickson hit .404 (19x47) and Corey Seager hit .365 (23x63) with a team-leading 23 hits in the series...OKC held New Orleans to just three home runs over the 16-game series, while OKC racked up 10 homers...OKC has won the last two season series between the teams and has lost just one season series against the Zephyrs since 2006.
Special K: Last night the Dodgers pitching staff recorded its third straight game with at least 13 strikeouts. The Dodgers had 13 strikeouts Tuesday after the pitching staff tallied 13 strikeouts Monday and 15 strikeouts Friday. Tuesday marked their 11th double-digit strikeout game overall. They currently rank third in the PCL with 213 strikeouts this season.
Barnes Burner: Austin Barnes went 3-for-4 last night and collected his second three-hit game of the season with Oklahoma City. He has now hit safely in 10 of his 12 games since being optioned by the Los Angeles Dodgers April 15...Barnes has reached base safely at least twice in seven consecutive games as well as in 10 of 12 games overall (.475 OBP).
What Can Brown Do For You?: Corey Brown is batting .381 (16x42) with eight RBI over his last 10 games. He has hit safely in eight of those contests with six multi-hit efforts.
Risk Management: Opponents are just 2 for their last 32 with runners in scoring position against the Dodgers pitching staff. OKC leads the PCL with a .212 opponent average with runners in scoring position this season...Dan Black's two-run double with two outs in the seventh inning yesterday was a rare occurrence, as the Dodgers are limiting opponents to a .136 average (12x88) with runners in scoring position with two outs. Opponents had been 0 for the last 16 in such spots prior to Black's double.
Segedin Stopped: Rob Segedin went 0-for-4 Tuesday, bringing his career-best 14-game hitting streak to an end. During the streak Segedin batted .424 (25x59) with 11 extra-base hits, 10 RBI, 14 runs scored and seven multi-hit games...After going 12-for-25 with seven extra-base hits during the last road trip, Segedin is off to a 1-for-9 start in the current series.
Missed Opportunities: The Dodgers were 1-for-15 with runners on base last night and are now 3-for-32 with runners on base in the current series, including 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position. The team was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position last night and is now 1 for its last 30 with runners in scoring position...OKC has drawn 14 walks during the series, but has only converted one of those free passes into a run...The Dodgers rank 14th in the league with a .236 average with runners on base and are 15th with a .212 clip with runners in scoring position (New Orleans - .209).
Singled Out: Last night OKC was held without an extra-base hit for just the second time this season. The Dodgers did not record an extra-base hit for the first time since April 10 at Nashville - ending a stretch of 19 straight games with an extra-base hit...The Dodgers have outhit the Zephyrs in each of the first two games of the series, both resulting in losses. They were 7-1 in games in which they outhit their opponent prior to Monday.
Snooze Button: Entering today, the Dodgers have lost each of their last eight games that started before noon, including a 4-3 defeat in Memphis on April 14. The Dodgers had leads in both the eighth and ninth innings slip away in that contest...After today, the Dodgers will have five pre-noon starts left on the schedule, including three at home.
