Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Isotopes (15-11) matched timely pitching with clutch hitting to come out on top over the Sacramento River Cats 6-3 on Tuesday night at Isotopes Park. The win moves the Isotopes into a tie with the Salt Lake Bees for first place in the PCL's Pacific Southern Division.

Albuquerque jumped out to a quick lead, crossing the plate three times in its half of the first inning. Left fielder Stephen Cardullo, first baseman Cody Decker, and catcher Ryan Casteel each knocked in a run during the inning.

On the season, the Isotopes have now scored 30 times during the contest's initial frame.

The home team would see their lead increase to 4-0 in the third inning when Cardullo blasted his team-leading third home run of the season.

The River Cats threatened in the sixth, but Isotopes starter Ryan Carpenter was able to use the strikeout to get out of a jam, escaping the inning while only allowing a single run.

Carpenter exited the game after 6.0 strong innings on the hill, allowing one run on just four hits, walking two, and striking out eight. Carpenter's 35 strikeouts are good for the league lead in that category among PCL pitchers.

However, Sacramento would not go down without a fight. The River Cats clawed their way back to a one-run deficit after plating two unearned runs against Isotopes reliever Sam Moll in the eighth inning.

The Albuquerque bats answered back in kind during the bottom half of the eighth, scoring twice in the inning courtesy of a Jordan Patterson RBI and a Ryan Casteel run-scoring double.

Though the tying run reached the plate in the top of the ninth, Isotopes reliever Jason Gurka was able to lock down his first save of the season, sending Albuquerque to the 6-3 victory.

The Isotopes and River Cats continue their four-game set tomorrow from Isotopes Park when right-hander Matt Flemer (1-0, 3.50) toes the rubber for Albuquerque. He will be opposed by Sacramento lefty Ty Blauch (3-21, 4.85). First pitch from Isotopes Park is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
