Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - Salt Lake Bees radio broadcaster Steve Klauke will call three upcoming Los Angeles Angels games, the Angels and Bees announced today. Klauke will fill in for Angels radio broadcaster Terry Smith during the Angels three-game road trip to Seattle May 13-15.
"I want to thank the Angels President John Carpino and Vice President of Communications Tim Mead for trusting my abilities and giving me the opportunity, as well as Bees General Manager Marc Amicone for allowing me to fill in for Terry," Klauke said. "I'm looking forward to catching up with some former Bees that are now in the big leagues."
The weekend series at Safeco Field will be Klauke's first Major League games since calling a pair of games for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2004. Klauke has called 3,240 games for Salt Lake, starting with the team's first game on April 9, 1994 in Vancouver, Washington. Smith will be away from the Angels at a family function.
"We are appreciative to the Salt Lake organization for allowing us to "recall" Steve to handle play-by-play duties for the Angels during our upcoming series in Seattle," said Mead. "Steve's commitment to his craft, his love and knowledge of the game, and the dedication shown through the years is tremendously respected by our organization. We look forward to him sharing his talents and expertise with our fans and listeners."
In 2014, Klauke was named the Baseball Broadcaster of the Year by Ballpark Digest as well as Utah Sportscaster of the Year. Klauke added "The Voice of the Wildcats" to his resume in 2015 and now calls Weber State football and basketball games during the Bees offseason.
"We couldn't be happier for Steve," Bees General Manager Marc Amicone said. "We think he is one of the best broadcasters in the business. It is a testament to our relationship with the Angels that we are able to share talent between our organizations whether it is on the field or off the field."
Klauke can be heard calling the action of Salt Lake Bees games on 1280 The Zone locally and will be heard on KLAA 830 AM in Los Angeles during his stay with the Angels. The Bees return home from a four-game road trip on Friday, May 6 to start an eight-game homestand against the Reno Aces and Albuquerque Isotopes.
