Sky Sox Edged 6-5 by Express

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - On Wednesday afternoon, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and Round Rock Express played a spirited battle in front of an energetic crowd of 5,073 at Security Service Field. Unfortunately for the home crowd, the visiting Express held on to win 6-5.

After Sky Sox starter Jorge Lopez (0-2, 8.84) pitched a scoreless top of the first, the Sky Sox were able to strike early. The first three batters for the Sky Sox singled, with Orlando Arcia's single scoring Keon Broxton with the game's first run.

Round Rock responded to take the lead in the second. Patrick Cantwell tied the game with an infield single, and then James Jones gave the Express the lead with a fielders choice ground out.

The Sky Sox again scored a run, this time to tie it in the second. Nate Orf began the inning with a triple off the left field wall then scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly from Ben Guez.

Round Rock was able to retake the lead in the third on a Pedro Ciriaco single. A few batters later, he scored along with Ike Davis on a triple by Doug Bernier to give the Express a 5-2 lead.

Colorado Springs got one back in the third with a pair of two out hits off Express starter Nick Tepesch (2-2, 4.08). Will Middlebrooks singled, then scored on Garin Cecchini's double down the left field line.

Lopez pitched four innings for the Sky Sox, allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits while striking out four.

In the fifth, the Sky Sox turned to Austin Ross out of the bullpen. Round Rock scored a run off him in the fifth on a single from Patrick Cantwell that scored Drew Robinson.

The Sky Sox answered the run in the sixth on a fielder's choice ground out from Adam Weisenburger that scored Michael Reed from third base.

Ross pitched three innings in relief for the Sky Sox, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five. Jacob Barnes came in and pitched the final two innings for the Sky Sox without allowing a run while striking out two.

For Round Rock, Tepesch pitched six innings to pick up the win while allowing four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

In the ninth, Express closer Carlos Fisher allowed a run, but was able to leave the tying run on base to pick up his third save of the season.

In the series finale tomorrow, Hiram Burgos (1-2, 7.31) will get the start for the Sky Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. MDT at Security Service Field.
