Aces Fold Tacos on Tuesday Night
May 4, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release
The Fresno Grizzlies hit pause once again on the second #TacoTuesday of the 2016 season, to play instead as their alter-ego, the Fresno Tacos. In putting their 1-0 mark as the Tacos on the line in the second of a four-game series against the Reno Aces, it was unfortunately the visitors who held the high card at the end of the night.
Reno scored in consecutive innings in the second and third. A Sean Jamieson RBI double and a Jack Reinheimer sac fly paced the visitors to an early 2-0 lead.
The Tacos tied it in the fourth, when Nolan Fontana ripped a two-out, two-run single into right field, scoring Colin Moran (single) and Jon Singleton (fielder's choice) who had reached earlier.
Moran went 2-for-4 in the ballgame, tying Danny Worth for the team lead in multi-hit games, with eight. Moran has also now hit in four in a row and 18 of 21 games played this season.
The Aces broke the tie in the seventh, when Carlos Rivero led off with a double, scoring on a Tuffy Gosewisch RBI grounder into left field, to make the score 3-2, which would stand up for the final.
A second consecutive good start from Asher Wojciechowski (2-2) was sullied by the defeat, as the right-hander tied his longest outing this season going seven innings. He scattered seven hits and just two of the three runs allowed were earned.
Wojciechowski's counterpart, Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect Archie Bradley (3-1) was excellent in earning the victory. In seven innings of his own he struck out 11 Tacos, the most an opposing pitcher has struck out Fresno batters in 2016. Bradley allowed just five hits and two earned runs, walking two. Silvino Bracho earned his third save in the ninth, retiring the side in order with a pair of strikeouts.
Fresno has now alternated wins and losses their last nine games, and dropped to 3-5 in one-run games (3-3 at home). All three losses on this current homestand have come by one run.
With the series knotted at one apiece, the Fresno Grizzlies return tomorrow night for a 6:35 p.m. start against Reno at Chukchanski Park. The probable starters are RHP Matt Buschmann (0-2, 5.56) for the visitors, matching up with RHP Brady Rodgers (0-2, 5.14) for Fresno.
