Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Oklahoma City, OK -Kyle Jensen delivered the game-winning hit to cap off a furious four-run ninth inning rally that lifted Oklahoma City to a 5-4 walk-off win over Omaha Saturday night in the opener of a four-game set at Bricktown Ballpark. The Storm Chasers dropped to 9-7 on the season and fell 3 1/2 games behind the division-leading Dodgers in the American Conference North.

Casey Coleman got the last two outs in the eighth inning before the Storm Chasers used a two-out single by JC Boscan, a balk, an infield hit by Merrifield, his third of the night, and a subsequent throwing error on the play to scratch across a run to push their lead to a seemingly comfortable 4-1. However, the Omaha right-hander was lifted with the bases loaded and one out in the ninth and replaced by Joe Paterson, who surrendered a two-run single to Darnell Sweeney that trimmed the margin to one and led to an intentional pass of Darwin Barney to refill the bases. Buck Britton's ground out brought home the tying run in front of Jensen, who served a soft single into right field to send the visitors to their first back-to-back losses of the young campaign.

Rey Fuentes scored the game's first run in the first inning on a base hit by Cheslor Cuthbert and then tripled with two outs in the second to drive in a pair to stake the Chasers to an early 3-0 lead. OKC starter Joe Wieland settled down and finished off five innings allowing those three runs on seven hits while walking one and fanning three. Omaha managed only the two hits in the ninth after Ryan Jackson's base hit to start the fourth.

Buddy Baumann, making a last-second spot start, was stellar during his three shutout innings, allowing just one hit, walking one and striking out five. Luke Hochevar continued his rehab assignment with a scoreless frame and was followed by Michael Mariot, who gave up two singles to open the fifth but battled back to strike out the next three hitters. Scott Alexander took over in the sixth and kept the hosts off the board until the eighth when a one-out single by Britton chased home Sweeney and ended the night for the Omaha southpaw.

The series continues Sunday afternoon with Omaha right-hander Joe Blanton getting the starting nod against OKC righty Carlos Frias. Coverage of the game gets underway at 1:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
