Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - Kyle Jensen capped a four-run ninth inning with a walk-off RBI single to give the Oklahoma City Dodgers a 5-4 win against the Omaha Storm Chasers Saturday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
A sellout crowd of 10,828 watched the Dodgers mount a late rally as they returned home from a road trip to open a four-game home series against Omaha.
Oklahoma City (13-4) entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing, 4-1.
Kiké Hernandez singled to lead off for the Dodgers. With one out, Matt Carson and Brian Ward drew walks to load the bases for Darnell Sweeney, who connected on a two-run double to center field to cut Omaha's lead to 4-3.
Omaha pitcher Joe Peterson intentionally walked Darwin Barney to load the bases for Buck Britton still with one out. Britton grounded out to score Ward and knot the game, 4-4, before Jensen stepped up to the plate.
Jensen's line drive to right field brought home Sweeney to secure the Dodgers' league-leading 13th win of the season.
Omaha (9-7) built a 3-0 lead through two innings.
The Storm Chasers connected on three hits in the first inning, and a RBI single from Cheslor Cuthbert gave Omaha a 1-0 advantage.
Reymond Fuentes tripled and drove in two runs for the Storm Chasers in the second inning for a 3-0 lead.
Omaha kept the Dodgers off the scoreboard until the eighth inning.
Sweeney singled to lead off the eighth for Oklahoma City, then stole second base - his league-leading ninth swipe of the season. He advanced to third on a groundout by Barney before a single from Britton brought him home to cut Omaha's lead to 3-1.
In the top of the ninth, Omaha's Whit Merrifield singled with two outs on a ground ball to Hernandez, but a throwing error on the shortstop allowed J.C. Boscan to score for a 4-1 edge.
Pitcher Joe Wieland started for Oklahoma City. He allowed three runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out three. Matt Shelton and Adam Liberatore combined to pitch three scoreless innings. Ramon Troncoso, picked up the win after joining the Dodgers Saturday from Tulsa, allowing one run and two hits.
Paterson (1-1) was charged with a blown save and the loss for Omaha.
Scott Schebler singled in his first three at-bats of the night to lead Oklahoma City with three hits. Sweeney and Britton each tallied two hits and two RBI.
