Aces Blanked in Consecutive Games

Fresno, Calif. - For the second time in as many nights, the Reno Aces (@Aces) were on the losing end of a lopsided shutout. Reno was blanked by the Fresno Grizzlies, 7-0, on Saturday night in front of 12,632 fans at Chukchansi Park.

The Aces have not scored a run in 19 innings. The last time they did was in the eighth inning of Thursday's 8-7 loss to Las Vegas. It marks the third time in franchise history the Aces have been shutout in back-to-back games.

Fresno right-hander Brady Rodgers controlled the Aces' bats for six innings before giving way to the bullpen. Rodgers scattered six hits and one walk while recording four strikeouts. Reno left ten runners on base in the loss, including a pair of runners in the third, fourth and eighth innings.

Second baseman Jamie Romak led off the second inning with a double, then led off the sixth with a single to left-field. Romak extended his Pacific Coast League-leading on-base streak to 15 games, every game Romak has played in this season.

Fresno scored their first run of the night in the first inning, extending a streak to three games in which the Aces' opponent has plated at least one run in the opening inning.

They added another run in the second, two runs in the third and another three runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a two-run doube by L.J. Hoes. Hoes and lead-off hitter Jonathan Villar combined on a 5-for-9 night with 2 runs scored and 4 runs driven in.

In the top of the eighth inning, Peter O'Brien was took a called third strike for the first out in the inning. After the at-bat, Aces Manager Phil Nevin was ejected by home plate umpire Brett Terry for arguing balls and strikes.

The Aces and Grizzlies will play game two of the four-game series Sunday afternoon at Chukchansi Park in Fresno. Left-hander Justin Marks (2-1, 6.61) starts for Reno against left-hander Tommy Shirley (2-0, 3.86) for Fresno. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
