January 6, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
Kings A Plenty: The Tulsa Oilers host the Memphis RiverKings tonight while saluting Elvis Presley, the king of rock n roll, who would have turned 72 on Monday.
Records: Oilers are 12-12-4 with 28 points in fourth place in the Northeast Division. Memphis is 20-6-3 with 43 points in first place in the Northeast Division.
Recent Action: The Oilers suffered their largest defeat of the season last night, losing 5-1 at Bossier-Shreveport. Memphis won 5-2 in Oklahoma City last night.
Season Series: This is the fourth meeting of the season between these two divisional rivals who will play each other a total of nine times. Don't plan on leaving early, as the previous three games have all gone to overtime. Memphis has won all three of them, the last two in shootouts.
All Shook Up: The Oilers are trying to shake their offense up again. Tulsa still sits second in the league in goals scored (111) and goals per game (3.96) but have scored just one goal in each of their last two games.
Jailhouse Rock: There could be a lot of activity whenever anyone goes to the penalty box tonight. Memphis has the number three ranked power play in the CHL at 21.6%, followed closely by the Oilers at number four at 21.1%.
Elvis And Hockey: Many fans don't realize the strong connection Elvis Presley had with hockey. His song Suspicious Minds used the phrase "We're caught in a trap", long before Jacques Lemaire made it part of the hockey vernacular. In Blue Suede Shoes he does the count to three (one for the money, two for the show, three to make ready now go cat go...) and hockey has three periods. Coincidence? We think not. His last live concert was at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis where Wayne Gretzky played his first game as a professional on October 14, 1978, as a member of the Indianapolis Racers of the World Hockey Association, thus linking the King to the Great One.
Next Up: The Oilers host Oklahoma City tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. The game is a make up from the game that was postponed on December 1. Fans should use the tickets from the December 1 game for tomorrow's game. Memphis hosts Corpus Christi tomorrow.
