
Eagles Extend Record with 5-2 Win Over Rocky Mountain

LOVELAND, Colo.- The Colorado Eagles extended their Central Hockey League-record winning streak to 14 games Saturday night with a 5-2 win over the Rocky Mountain Rage at the Budweiser Events Center. Five different players had a goal and three players had three assists for the Eagles who improve their record to 25-4-0 and remain in first place in the CHL. The game marked the Eagles 17th consecutive win at home and 127th consecutive sellout at the Budweiser Events Center (including playoffs). Rocky Mountain falls to 8-18-4 and remains in fourth place in the Northwest Division. The Eagles and Rage will play two more times this season having already played 10 games against each other. Colorado will head to the road next week starting in Oklahoma City on Tuesday as they look to extend their CHL-record winning streak.
The Eagles jumped on the Rage right after the opening face off. Riley Nelson scored the Eagles first goal on the power play only 1:32 into the game, he blast a slapshot from the left circle into the back of the net. Less than two minutes later, Steve Haddon scored his first professional goal on a centering pass from Scott Polaski. The Eagles out shot the Rage 19-11 in the period and led 2-0.
Sean Robertson scored the Eagles second of three power play goals in the game on a wrister that beat Rage goaltender David Guerrera as he moved from left to right. Ed McGrane and Seth Leonard assisted on the play each extending their scoring streaks, McGrane's to eight games and Leonard's to four games. Rocky Mountain fought back and scored a couple power play goals less than two minutes apart to make it a one-goal game. Mark Wires and Chip Dunleavy each had power play goals making the score 3-2. The Eagles again out shot Rocky Mountain in the period 11-8, but held on to a slight 3-2 lead.
Eagles' defenseman Aaron Schneekloth tipped an Ed McGrane shot at the 6:47 mark of the third period to give the Eagles their third power play goal of the game. The Eagles continued to kill penalties in the third period, and scored their 23rd shorthanded goal of the season on a two-on-one goal by Chris Hartsburg. The goal was his fourth shorthanded goal of the season as the Eagles close in on the CHL's all-time mark for shorthanded goals in a season set at 27. Colorado killed 12 of 14 penalties tonight and scored three power play goals on just five chances. They out shot the Rage 45-32 and won their 14th straight game by a score of 5-2.
