Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs and New Mexico Scorpions faced one and other for the tenth time this season Saturday night in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. In roster moves prior to the game the Sundogs released defenseman Max Bull and signed forward Dmitri Leonov of Chelyabinski, Russia. Dan DaSilva's go ahead goal in the third would prove to be enough, his second consecutive game winning goal. With the win, the Sundogs improve to 16-13-1 and increase their lead in the Southwest Division by three points over second place Amarillo and Odessa.

The Scorpions would be handed their first power play of the night after a questionable cross checking call on Kyle Orr just 33 seconds into the game. New Mexico would capitalize on the man advantage as Mike Falk would slap the puck past Arizona goalie Chris King on a pass from Rob Guinn. The Scorpions' power play goal would be the lone goal of the period. Arizona would go 0-for-2 on the power play in the first period while the Scorpions finished 1-for-4 with the man advantage in the first frame.

Arizona would see its first goal of the game at 7:58 of the second period as Cory Stillman would wrist a shot from the top of the circles past the Scorpions' Scott Reid on a pass from Brent Kelly. Less than two minutes later Mike Prpich of New Mexico would be handed a five-minute elbowing major on Martin Doyle giving Arizona a long power play chance. Halfway through the five-minute power play Chris Bartolone would put the puck past Reid but the goal would be called off by the referee as Reid was interfered with by Arizona forward Chris Greene.

The third period would see Arizona take its first lead of the game halfway through the third period at the 9:16 mark as Dan DaSilva would collect a power play goal from Dan Laperriere and Cory Stillman. Mike Prpich would be tagged with a roughing call to give the Sundogs the man advantage. The Sundogs would go down a man with less than two minutes to play as Jonathan Bernier would be penalized for holding. New Mexico Head Coach Ray Edwards would pull netminder Reid to give his club a 6-4 advantage but it would prove to be futile as Arizona would hold on for the 2-1 victory.

Chris King grabbed his second win in as many nights for Arizona and improved to 10-5-0 on the season stopping 41 of 42 shots. Scott Reid stopped 22 of 24 shots for New Mexico in the loss. The Sundogs finished 1-for-5 with the man advantage while New Mexico finished 1-for-6. Next up for the Sundogs are the Laredo Bucks on Friday, January 12 in Laredo, Texas. Game time is set for 6:30pm and will be tape delayed until 7:00pm on 96.7 FM The Wolf, the Official Broadcast Home of the Arizona Sundogs.
