January 6, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League (CHL), announced today that left wing Jeff Christian has been named the CHL Sher-Wood Player of the Month for the month of December.
The Hounds posted a franchise best six wins in the month finishing 6-4-2 in the 12 games played. Christian led the way for the Hounds scoring nine goals with 20 assists and was a +15 in December. His 29 total points for the month is 11 more than any other league player that being Chris Richards who had 18 points (7-11=18).
"Jeff is about as steady as you get and has been the fuel behind our strong play as of late," said Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "He is one of those guys who is as valuable to the team off the ice and in the locker room as he is on the ice."
Christian, the SteelHounds Captain, currently leads all CHL players in points (55), assists (37) and plus/minus (+23). The Canfield, Ohio resident has had a point in all but one of the 26 games he has played this season and is currently on a league-high 16-game point streak that has seen him amass 12 goals and 23 assists. The veteran was recently named as a starter for the Northern Conference in the Dodge 2007 All-Star Game. It will mark the second straight season Christian has earned that honor.
The SteelHounds begin 2007 on the road with a six-game road trip that began last night with a 5-2 victory over the Rocky Mountain Rage. The Hounds do not return home until Friday, January 19th when they face the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the Chevrolet Centre.
