New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-It seems like a weekly occurrence that the Scorpions and Sundogs square off. On Saturday night it was Arizona who came out on top 2-1.
Dan DaSilva's third period power play goal proved to be the difference. The Sundogs used strong goaltending from Chris King to move four points ahead of the Scorpions in the Southwest Division standings.
New Mexico got off to the start they were looking for when Mike Falk scored his 14th goal of the year 2:18 into the contest on the power play. Unfortunately, it would be the last time any Scorpions would score on King.
The Sundogs tied the game up with the only even strength goal of the game 7:58 into the middle period. Cory Stillman took a Brent Kelly pass and put it in the net.
Both goaltenders gave the fans plenty to cheer about. Scott Reid made 21 saves in the loss and will return to Milwaukee of the American Hockey League tomorrow. King got the better of the two net minders making 41 saves to earn his 10th victory of the season.
The Scorpions paid tribute to the military with their annual "Military Appreciation Night." Special "Stars and Stripes" jerseys were worn to commemorate the evening. During the game troops who are currently serving, will be serving soon and those who have served and those who fell in battle were all honored with special tributes.
Scorpions Fans Rasied over $26,000 Saturday Night! Following the game the sleek patriotic jerseys were put up for auction with all proceeds benefiting New Mexico families with soldiers currently serving overseas. The Scorps' fans patriotic pride came through as over $26,000 was raised from the sale of the game-worn jerseys. The Scorpions organization truly thanks those who helped make this night special before, during and after the game.
The Scorpions will be on the road for the next six games and 18 days. The road trip starts in Wichita Wednesday night. Fans can hear the game on 1050 KTBL with the puck drop coming at 6:05 MST. Next weekend the Scorpions will visit Rocky Mountain for games Friday and Saturday.
