Mudbugs Hold Off Rayz 4-3

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The four game home stand continued for the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Saturday night at CenturyTel Center with the Corpus Christi Rayz visiting CenturyTel Center for the first time this year. The Mudbugs were looking to avenge a 5-4 shootout loss against the Rayz on New Year's Eve. The Bugs were first on the board when Forbes MacPherson gained control of a loose puck behind the net and wrapped it around, beating Rayz goaltender Brent Zelenewich. Corpus evened the game moments later when Jason Baird one-time a shot over the shoulder of John DeCaro. The Rayz converted one more time on the powerplay before the end of the period when Geno Parrish beat DeCaro top shelf.

The Mudbugs scored two goals in the second period to reclaim the lead. Chris Gustafson scored on a a slapshot from the point. Forbes MacPherson would later feed a puck from behind the net to Dan Wildfong in the slot who burried it to give the Bugs a 3-2 lead.

Corpus Christi evened the game at 3-3 when Derrick MacIver beat John DeCaro, finishing a 3 on 2 break. The Bugs got the goal back only minutes later. Quade Lightbody sent a drive from the point that was redirected by Chris Abbott through the five-hole of Brent Zelenewich. The Bugs held on for the 4-3 victory. Bossier-Shreveport is back in action Thursday night at CenturyTel Center against Youngstown for a 7:05 faceoff.
