Hounds Bark Back but lose in Shootout Against Apes

The Youngstown SteelHounds would battle back from a 3-0 deficit but would fall short against the Amarillo Gorillas by a score of 4-3 in a shootout in North Texas on Saturday night.

A scoreless first period would see the Gorillas jump out to a quick lead thanks to a Dave Silverstone goal at 49 seconds to make it 1-0. The Apes would keep the pressure on as 12 minutes later Jason Chafe would score his sixth of the year, this on the power play to make it 2-0 Amarillo. The scoring would not end there is just 46 seconds later the Gorillas would make it 3-0 to end the period on a Rich Hanson goal.

The third period would see the Hounds storm back as down two men it would be Tab Lardner shorthanded to make 3-1 just 49 seconds into the third. Lardner was not done as he recorded his second of the night, both unassisted just two minutes later to make it 3-2. Jeff Christian would keep his point streak alive as he extended it to 18 on his 20th goal of the season to tie it up at three. Christian though would be ejected with four minutes to play for a cross checking, game misconduct penalty. The Hounds would persevere and force a shootout.

The shootout would see the Hounds net one goal thanks to Chris Shaffer but it would not be enough as in the 10th round Keith Rowe would put one past David Currie to give the Gorillas a 4-3 shootout victory.

The loss puts the Hounds at 15-9-7 for 37 points, two points behind Bossier-Shreveport for second place in the Northeast division. The Hounds will face the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in Louisiana next Thursday night for second place in the division.
