Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Loveland, Colo. - Like the Colorado Eagles' previous 13 opponents, the Rocky Mountain Rage were unable to knock-off the Northwest Division's first-place team, as the Eagles won their Central Hockey League-record 14th consecutive game, 5-2, at the Budweiser Events Center.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead with a power play goal just 1:32 into the game off the stick of Riley Nelson. They quickly added to their advantage at 3:23 when Steve Haddon finished a two-on-one rush to give Colorado a 2-0 edge through 20 minutes.
Once the Eagles tacked on a five-on-three power play goal 1:36 into the second off a one-time blast from Sean Robertson, it appeared they would cruise the rest of the way. The Rage had other ideas. Skating on a five-on-three of their own, All-Star Mark Wires lit the lamp from the left circle at 8:41 and 1:28 later Chip Dunleavy re-directed a Matic Kralj shot for another power play goal. Rocky Mountain was within a single tally barley mid-way through the game as Dunleavy scored for a team-record third game in a row.
Still a one-goal contest to begin the third, the teams traded power play chances without success. But the Eagles converted on their second power play opportunity of the period, Aaron Schneekloth finding the back of the net at 6:47, to re-extend their lead to a two-goal margin. Chris Hartsburg scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 15:17 to ice the victory and the 5-2 final.
With the loss, the Rage drop to 8-18-4 on the season with 20 points in Northwest Division standings.
The club returns to action next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 12 and 13, when they welcome the New Mexico Scorpions to Broomfield Event Center for their final two games before the CHL All-Star Break. Both games will begin at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,500 fans at the BEC on Jan. 12 during the first of the two-game set will receive a Rage Travel Mug courtesy of Champion Ford of Boulder.
