Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK- The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League wrapped up their three-game Texas road trip on Saturday night in Austin. On their trip, the Oilers lost to the Laredo Bucks 6-4 on Wednesday night, were beaten by the Corpus Christi Rayz 3-1 on Friday night, and then rebounded to beat the Austin Ice Bats 8-5 on Saturday night.
Following Saturday's victory over the CHL's top team (Austin Ice Bats), the Oilers (31-18-5) find themselves in a first-place tie in the Northwest Division standings with the Oklahoma City Blazers (32-18-3). Both teams have 67 points, but the Blazers have played one fewer game than the Oilers. The Amarillo Gorillas (32-19-1) are right behind the Oilers and Blazers with 65 points and have played two fewer games than Tulsa and one fewer than Oklahoma City.
A total of four teams will advance to the CHL playoffs from the Northern Conference, with the two division winners automatically qualifying. Currently, the Indianapolis Ice (35-11-7) lead the Northeast Division with 77 points, while the Oilers and Blazers are in first place in the Northwest Division with 67 points. The Memphis RiverKings (32-18-3) are in second place in the Northeast with 67 points. Amarillo (32-19-1) and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (28-17-9) each are right behind with 65 points apiece. Only four of those six teams will qualify for postseason play following the regular season.
Tulsa's next home game will be on Wednesday when they host the Indianapolis Ice. Tickets for next Wednesday's game are available at local Drug Marts, the Tulsa Convention Center Box Office, the Oilers office, or by phone at 584-2000.
