Bucks Moving Closer to Postseason

February 24, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release

A shrinking group of Laredo Bucks is inching closer to a playoff berth in the Central Hockey League.  On Monday, the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League recalled defenseman Michel Periard.  In a previous stint with the Rampage, Periard posted two assists in two games  Periard joins fellow All-Star Eric Schneider in San Antonio, where the Rampage plays host to the Chicago Wolves on Monday night.  Entering the game, Schneider has two goals in seven games with San Antonio.  Periard is expected to rejoin the Bucks in time for Tuesday's game in Odessa.  Saturday in Oklahoma City, the Bucks played with just thirteen skaters—three fewer than usual—in front of goaltender Lance Leslie.  The Bucks will likely have the same number Tuesday due to call-ups and injuries.

Tuesday's game at Ector County Coliseum in Odessa is a preview of a likely playoff matchup between the Bucks and the Odessa Jackalopes.  Any combination of three points gained by the Bucks and lost by Corpus Christi or Lubbock clinches a playoff spot for Laredo.  The Bucks need four points to clinch third place in the conference.  Odessa leads Lubbock by 14 points and New Mexico by 15 points in the Southwest Division race.

The Bucks return home Wednesday to begin preparations for Friday night's home game against El Paso at the Laredo Entertainment Center.  Friday is the start of a brutal stretch of six games in eight days for the Bucks.  After Friday's tilt, the Bucks have just three regular-season home games left:  Sunday vs. Bossier-Shreveport at 4:00pm, March 4 vs. Austin and March 12 vs. Fort Worth.
