SCORPIONS MATCH-UPS

EL PASO – The Scorpions are 3-3-1 against the Buzzards this season and the teams face each other four times over a 16-day span beginning tomorrow. The Buzzards have been tough on the road of late but struggled at home in dropping their last seven games at the El Paso County Coliseum. Jeff Scharf leads the Buzzards with 58 points (22g-36a) and is followed by Derrell Upton (18g-32a-50pts). Goalie Blaine Russell is 7-8-4 with a 3.98 GAA while Jamie Ronayne is 3-6-0 with a 4.06 GAA since joining the team in early January.

AMARILLO – Wednesday's meeting is the ninth and final one between the teams this season. Amarillo will be looking for revenge after the Scorpions ' 2-1 road win over the Gorillas on Friday. After losing in Odessa on Saturday, the Gorillas rebounded by waxing the Jackalopes 6-0 at home last night. The unit of Henry Kuster (28g-27a-55pts), Dorian Anneck (20g-32a-52pts) and Derek Hahn (19g-21a-40pts) leads the way offensively. Hahn has an eight-game point-scoring streak, while Anneck has ten points in the last five games. Goalie Steve Debus (18-10-1, 2.69 GAA) lost both starts last week, while Shawn Degagne (14-9-0, 2.62 GAA) picked up his third shutout of the season last night. The Gorillas are a perfect 9-0 in shootouts this year.

ODESSA – The Scorpions play back-to-back home games against the Jackalopes this weekend. Odessa has struggled a bit of late, going 3-5-0 in their last eight games. However, six of the seven games between the teams this season have been decided by one goal, with five of the games going to overtime. Jackalopes coach Don McKee has missed the past several weeks following heart and intestinal surgeries, and the Scorpions would like to send their wishes for a speedy recovery. Mike Rutter leads the Jacks in scoring with 55 points (16g-39a), while defenseman Scott Hillman (13g-36a-49pts) is fourth among CHL defensemen. Goalie Mike Gorman (24-15-6, 2.67 GAA) shoulders the load between the pipes.

CARAVAGGIO TIES MARTINO FOR WIN MARK – By winning both games last week, Scorpions goalie Luciano Caravaggio has tied former goalie and coach Tony Martino for the team's all-time win mark with 54 victories. Caravaggio has allowed four goals in his last four starts and stopped 128 of 132 shots during that time. He also leads all goaltenders with five Scorpions shutouts.
