Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings are pleased to announce that they will once again be partnering with United Way's Coats for Kids and Families program.

On Saturday, December 18 at the Oil Kings game against the Swift Current Broncos at 4:00 PM, they will be accepting donations of winter outerwear for men, women, children, and infants.

"The Oil Kings are proud to continue our partnership in the Coats for Kids drive this season," said Oil Kings Director of Business Operations Daniel Troiani. "United Way's efforts to help children and families with warm clothing is a wonderful initiative we're pleased to support."

Donation bins will be setup inside the Ford Hall gates for fans attending the game, while there will also be donation bins setup outside the gates in Ford Hall for fans unable to attend the game, but who wish to donate.

Any fan that brings a donation item will receive a voucher for two tickets to the Oil Kings Family Day Fireworks Frenzy game on February 21 against the Winnipeg ICE.

Accepted donation items include: Winter jackets, snow pants, toques, mitts, scarves, winter boots, and insulated work wear. All donated items must be clean and in good condition. Non-winter clothing and spring jackets will not be accepted.

There is currently an urgent need for men's winter coats, kid's winter coats, mittens and gloves.

"The need for warm winter gear is greater than ever and donations of new and gently used winter wear will make an immediate and positive difference in the lives of local individuals and families," says Rob Yager, President & CEO of United Way of the Alberta Capital Region. "People who have lost their jobs will have access to winter clothing they might not otherwise be able to afford, children from low-income families will be able to dress warmly so they can fully participate in outdoor school and recreation activities, and newcomers to Canada will be better prepared for their first winter and Alberta's frigid temperatures."

"Although we wish this wasn't a reality for many families, doing our part fulfills our commitment to continue giving back to the Edmonton community," added Troiani. "As we approach the cold winter months, please bring a coat, or any winter item to our game next Saturday in exchange for Family Day tickets. We have great fans and we know that they will continue to do a tremendous job of supporting Coats for Kids and Families."

On Monday, December 13, the Oil Kings and the United Way will be hosting a media availability in the Oilers Hall of Fame Room at 2:00 PM to discuss this initiative.
