Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Cranbrook, BC: Penalties were to blame in the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-2 loss to the Kootenay Ice. Kootenay scored their first three goals a man up and defenseman Hayden Rintoul led the way with a pair of markers. The Oil Kings have lost the first four games of their current six game road trip.
"Two penalties in the offensive zone early killed us," said Oil Kings Head Coach Steve Pleau. "I thought we had a good start and looked good five on five, but we can't keep playing from behind."
The Ice opened the scoring on the power play when Dustin Sylvester set up Rintoul who ripped a one timer past Edmonton starter Torrie Jung. Just under three minutes later, Kevin King made it two nothing tipping a point shot past Jung with Kootenay a man up. Brent Raedeke replied on an Oil Kings power play whipping a shot past Ice starter Todd Mathews.
Kootenay clicked on the power play again in the second period when Brayden McNabb wired a shot off the post and in. Jung was replaced by Cam Lanigan after the Ice grabbed a 3-1 lead. The Oil Kings got right back into it when Logan Proulx scored his fourth goal of the year just over a minute later. Rintool gave the Ice the two goal lead back when he scored his second goal on a long point shot through traffic.
Kootenay iced it with an empty netter late in the third from Edmonton native Steele Boomer. The Oil Kings (8-17-4-4) are in a real slump with only one win in their last fifteen games.
The Oil Kings are off to Saskatchewan for a date with the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night. Game time is 6:00 p.m. Edmonton time. The Oil Kings will board the bus and head to Manitoba for a game the very next night against the Brandon Wheat Kings. The puck drops at 6:30 p.m. Edmonton time. The Oil Kings will return home for a pair of games before the Christmas break. The Regina Pats visit Rexall Place on Wednesday, December 16th. The Third Annual Toyota Teddy Bear Toss is Friday, December 18th against the Red Deer Rebels. Tickets start at just $15 and can be purchased online at the Oil Kings website -www.oilkings.ca - or fans can call 414-GOAL (4625) to get their seats.
