Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Spokane Chiefs are currently locked in the tightest race in the WHL as just two points separates the top three teams in the U.S. Division. Tri-City leads at 42 points, Portland is second at 41 and the Chiefs, who have won five in a row, are in third at 40. Spokane has played three games fewer than Portland.
The Chiefs have won their last five games in the Spokane Arena and have outscored the opposition 17-3 in that span. Following last night's 3-0 shutout of the Prince George Cougars the Chiefs have blanked the visiting team in three of their last four games.
Spokane will play twice this weekend, Friday night on the road at Prince George and then at home on Saturday as they host the Swift Current Broncos on Teddy Bear Toss Night presented by The Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund.

TEDDY BEAR TOSS SATURDAY NIGHTReady...set...toss those teddy bears! Chiefs' fans have the opportunity to be just the first part of a three step process in helping give back to the Spokane community through the Teddy Bear Toss presented by The Spokesman-Review's Christmas Fund. On Saturday night the Chiefs will host the Swift Current Broncos and when Spokane scores their first goal of the game, fans can throw their teddy bears onto the ice.
Step two of the Teddy Bear toss will be when the players collect all the teddy bears, last year a franchise record of 4,067 were tossed onto the ice, and stuffed into three trucks supplied by Gus Johnson Ford. The game will be delayed as the players are joined by local volunteers to help clean the ice.
Step three will be Monday when the teddy bears are delivered to the Spokane Interstate Fairgrounds for The Spokesman-Review's Christmas Fund. Players will also deliver teddy bears to local hospitals in the Gus Johnson Ford Christmas Caravan.
Swift Current will visit the Spokane Arena for the first time since December 8th, 2007, another Teddy Bear Toss game, when the Chiefs defeated the Broncos 3-1. The Chiefs earned a 3-2 shootout win in Swift Current last season. Jared Cowen and Mitch Wahl scored goals in regulation for the Chiefs. Since the 1998-99 season, the Chiefs are 10-3-0 versus the Broncos. Spokane is 2-1 this season versus the East Division with wins over Prince Albert and Regina. The Chiefs will host Saskatoon on Tuesday, January 5th and Moose Jaw on Wednesday, February 10th to round out their schedule versus the East.
Tickets to all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TIcketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
