Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Moose Jaw, SK - The Edmonton Oil Kings (22-8-2-1) had a 3-1 second period lead slip away on Tuesday night as they dropped a 7-4 decision to the Moose Jaw Warriors (15-14-2-1) at Mosaic Place.

For a second straight game to open their road trip, the Oil Kings would get on the board first to jump out to a quick 1-0 lead.

Just as an Oil King power play had expired, Ethan Peters, a Moose Jaw product, took a pass from Cole Miller at the blueline in the attacking zone and zipped a shot in off the body of a Warriors defenceman for the game's opening goal at 7:25 of the period.

The Warriors were able to respond exactly seven minutes later after Jagger Firkus was able to steal a puck just inside his own blueline and speed the length of the ice on a breakaway where he'd make a deke to his backhand to lift in the equalizer to send the two clubs to the first intermission tied 1-1.

The Oil Kings got off to a hot start in the second period, scoring twice in the opening 4:25 of the middle stanza to take a 3-1 lead off goals from Luke Prokop and Josh Williams, but would then see the Warriors rattle off five consecutive goals to take a 6-3 lead into the second intermission.

Firkus scored his second of the game just 25 seconds after the Oil Kings had taken a two-goal lead to bring the deficit back to one for the home side. At 6:14 of the period, Ryder Korczak evened the score at 3-3 after taking a pass in the slot and roofing the puck over the shoulder of Oil Kings goaltender Kolby Hay. The Warriors then took the lead just past the midway mark of the second when Brayden Yager drilled in a one-timer on a Moose Jaw power play. Korczak put in his second of the night at 14:05 of the period after jumping on a rebound at the side of the Edmonton net. Before the period was out, Nathan Pilling cleaned up another rebound in front of the Edmonton net for another power play goal for the Warriors.

In the third period, the Oil Kings would make things interesting after Logan Dowhaniuk was able to bring Edmonton back within two after he snapped a shot through Carl Tetachuk from the right-wing circle at 12:24 of the final period, but the Warriors snuffed out any hope of a comeback after Korczak completed his hat-trick with just 2:11 left on the clock.

Hay finished the night making 35 saves in the Edmonton crease, while Tetachuk turned away 29 shots to earn the victory for the Warriors. The Oil Kings went zero-for-three on the power play, Moose Jaw was two-for-five.

Next up, the Oil Kings continue their road trip with a stop in Brandon to battle the Wheat Kings Thursday night at 6:00 PM, you can listen to the game live at oilkings.ca/radio.
