ICE Open Trip with OT Loss

The Winnipeg ICE opened a four game road trip in Brandon Monday night dropping a 5-4 decision in overtime to the Wheat Kings.

Chad Nychuk's second goal of the game at 4:35 of the extra frame gave the Wheat Kings their second win of the season in five tries against the ICE.

Nate Danielson, Vincent Iorio and Brett Hyland also scored for Brandon (16-13-1-1), who trailed 1-0 after the first period and 2-1 through 40 minutes.

Jakin Smallwood, Jack Finley, Conor Geekie and Mikey Milne scored for Winnipeg (25-5-2), who have a five point lead over Edmonton for first place in the WHL's Eastern Conference standings.

Matthew Savoie assisted on Smallwood's first period goal to now lead the WHL with 51 points in 32 games.

Winnipeg out shot Brandon 41-37. Ethan Kruger earned the win in goal while Gage Alexander took the overtime loss.
