Oil Kings Blanked by Hitmen

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings dropped a 5-0 decision to the Calgary Hitmen on Friday night at Rogers Place.

In the opening 20 minutes, the Hitmen were able to outshoot the Oil Kings 14-7 and were rewarded with a late power play goal from Jacob Wright to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

In the second period, the Hitmen struck three more times to take a 4-0 lead to the dressing room after 40 minutes of play.

Billal Noori and Carson Wetsch scored goals just 13 seconds apart less than 10 minutes into the period to get the scoring started for the Hitmen.

Keagan Slaney capped the scoring with 30 seconds left in the frame after finishing off a beautiful cross-ice from Riley Fiddler-Schultz.

In the third period, Grayden Siepmann rounded out the Calgary scoring at 12:34 after he finished off a nice three-way passing play.

Kolby Hay made 38 saves in net for the Oil Kings, while Brayden Peters denied all 18 Edmonton shots for his first shutout of the season. The Oil Kings went 0-for-5 on the power play, the Hitmen were 1-for-4.

Next up, the Oil Kings continue their six-game homestand Sunday afternoon when they welcome the Red Deer Rebels to town for a Family Fun Sunday, presented by Global Edmonton, at 4:00 P.M.
