NEWS & NOTES:
End of a Long Roadie: The Wheat Kings finished their Western Road Trip in Medicine Hat where they suffered a tough 5-1 loss at the hands of the Tigers. It was a game where the Tigers controlled play majority of the evening with goaltender Nick Jones suffering his 3rd loss of the season between the pipes.Nate Danielson's 3 game goal scoring streak was also snapped.
The Rematch: The Wheat Kings host the Winnipeg Ice Friday night. In their previous matchup it was a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime loss for the Wheat Kings as they were unable to take advantage of a Winnipeg Ice club that didn't have Matt Savoie, Connor Geekie and Carson Lambos in the lineup. The Ice are expected to have all of those players slot into the lineup along with their top draft eligible prospect Zach Benson who scored the overtime winner in that September 24th opener.
NHL Central Scouting: 3 Wheat Kings were named to NHL's Central Scouting Preliminary Players to Watch List ahead of the 2023 NHL Draft. Forward Nate Danielson and Goaltender Carson Bjarnason received A-ratings. Forward Rylen Roersma received a C-rating. Bjarnason and Danielson were 2 of 7 A-rating Western Leaguers.
Oh Canada: This will be the final weekend the Wheat Kings fans will see Charlie Elick, Roger McQueen & Caleb Hadland in person for a couple weeks. The three 16 year olds will head to Langley B.C. to suit up for Team Canada's U17 Team for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Charlie Elick & Roger McQueen will play for Canada White & Caleb Hadland will play for Canada Red. Team Canada will have 3 total teams in the Tournament.
Shining Star: Goaltender Carson Bjarnason has started 6 out of 8 games on the road trip earning a star in 5 of those matchups. 3 of those games he was named 1st star.
Oh Danny Boy: The hottest player on the Wheat Kings roster who isn't named Carson Bjarnason has to be Nate Danielson. After starting the road trip without a single goal scored, the 17 year old has scored 4 goals and added 4 assists over a 7 game stretch generating offense at the right times.
